Ferme-Auberge du Gustiberg
The year 1890 saw the birth of this mountain inn offering a superb view across Thur Valley, from the Tête des Neufs-Bois to Rouge Gazon.
A gaping caverne there bears the name “Devil’s Kitchen”. But take heart, the farm cooking is not at all diabolical, with beef cooked in coarse salt, calf’s head tart in a vinaigrette dressing, smoked meat, beer-braised pork shoulder and Alsace speciaities, to order. Road Access: drive all the way up the Thur Valley to the Bussang Pass (RN 66). Via the pass on the right, the forest road crosses the Peduzzi clearing and extends for one and 1/4 miles to the farm.
Access on foot: Fellering or Urbès (2h), Col d'Oderen (2 hours 30 minutes).
Hiking: Drumont (1 hour), Lochberg (30 min), Felzach (2 hours 30 minutes), Rouge-Gazon (1/2 journée).
Meals: 2 dining rooms seating 90 in all.
Summer leisure pursuits: Small fruit picking, mountain bike circuits, children’s games, horseback trekking 3 miles away, fishing and swimming 4 and a half miles away.
